Beirut International Platform Of Dance - BIPOD 2018

Organized by Maqamat

11 to 27 April 2018 | Beirut, Lebanon

BIPOD an annual contemporary dance platform, is reviving its already established reputation as one of the most important dance festivals in the region. The thirteen previous editions have contributed to the development and progress of the contemporary dance scene in Lebanon and allowed more visibility, collaboration, networking and exchange for artists on a local and international level.

For its 14th Edition, BIPOD offers a very special program that will celebrate dance continuously throughout the event: performances, in addition to workshops, master classes, exhibitions , discussion panels  and talks with the artists.

This year the festival will include a focus on female choreographers, and a feature on Italian artists, as well as showcase internationally acclaimed companies from Spain, Italy, Iceland, USA, Switzerland, Norway and Germany.

Maqamat will also organize the 7th Edition of Moultaqa Leymoun within BIPOD 2018, hosting 17 dancers and choreographers from different Arab Countries.

Maqamat would like to salute not only women choreographers but all women, who publically or privately fight every day and continue walking in life remarkably. Women who are and woman to be, you all deserve to be celebrated and this year, we dedicate BIPOD’s 14th Edition to you.

This edition of BIPOD, we offer to our dear audience the different choreographical languages of women, celebrating their creativity, their hard work that questions our society and highlight ideas and new concepts that may spread into a tool for progress and change.

Spreading values of solidarity with We Women of Sol Pico, of humility and dignity with Cristiana Morganti, of consideration and respect with Ruth Childs, of freedom of bodies exploding pre-conceptions with Silvia Gribaudi and Erna Omarsdottir or social awarness with Anna Konjetsky and Annamaria Ajmone. But of course we will also have the pleasure to see the powerful work of Roberto Castello, Francesco Scavetta and Israel Galvan.

Over the past few years, Maqamat has been able to develop many cultural exchanges and projects with Italy. For this edition of BIPOD, we have developed a great partnership with the Italian Embassy in Lebanon and MIBACT, allowing us to organize an Italian Focus within the festival. We strongly believe that the presence of Italian companies in the festival will enhance the diversity of artistic propositions in contemporary dance.

Maqamat is honoured to receive all the international organizations/guests coming to visit the festival and the 7th Edition of Moultaqa Leymoun, showcasing and promoting around 20 artists from Lebanon and different Arab countries. More specifically we are welcoming all the institutions in APAP – advancing performing arts project, an international network of 11 cultural organisations from across Europe of which “Maqamat/ BIPOD” is an associated partner here in Lebanon.

And because at BIPOD we celebrate commitment and courage, BIPOD 2018 presents the Award for Life Achievement to Mrs Georgette Gebara, a crucial figure for the establishment and development of dance in Lebanon and a dance militant who never let a bomb get in her way to achieve her passion.

In this perspective, we continue to strive for innovative platforms, spaces and possibilities carrying our ambitions and imagination, art and creativity, inspiring the youth of the future generation of artists who are still insisting on making our country a better place.
