Festival Sommerszene 2019, June 17th to June 29, 2019

The programme for Sommerszene 2019 offers a feast of stage arts from 17th to 29th of June. For 13 days Salzburg becomes a stage for the world with five world premieres and four Austrian premieres that can be seen at seven different venues. Let Sommerszene overwhelm you with brilliant dance and visually impressive productions, move you with intense acting and touching stories and surprise you with humorous performances and innovative forms of participation.

This year’s festival is opened by Belgian artist Jan Martens with RULE OF THREE, a virtuoso choreography of movement, live sound and lighting. A similar level of intensity is reached in Lisi Estaras’ No Human No Cry! which explores the physicality of emotions together with the BODHI PROJECT. Anna Konjetzky’s The Very Moment, co-presented with ARGEkultur, also focuses on the body. And the latest masterpiece by cult group Forced Entertainment offers no escape for the performers either. In Out Of Order six clowns present a comic and varied game about shared lives and individual needs. Cezary Tomaszewski has created a grotesque musical revue about patriotism and nationalism in Cezary Goes to War. Louis Vanhaverbeke juggles brilliantly with objects, music and language in his humorous solo MULTIVERSE. Texts also play a central role in Andrea Maurer’s poetic service Found Poems and Tiago Rodrigues is equally interested in the power of words in By Heart. Meanwhile Frans Poelstra turns his attention to the question WHY. Hubert Lepka opens up a significant chapter in our history. In HERDE und STALL he builds a temporary enclosure for humans and animals and examines the dimension of human settlement. Once again the city provides the perfect venue: in Diorama Salzburg the apap artist Ingri Fiksdal transforms the main station forecourt into a largescale sculpture of bodies and objects, the composer Marco Döttlinger brings art to the Neutortunnel with his sound installation Euch sprechen die Steine and ohnetitel goes on an episodic odyssey through the city in Die Späte der Stunde. And in our finaleMichikazu Matsune, our second apap artist in the festival, reminds us of real and fictive encounters in eccentric and touching ways in All Together.
